Biotech startup Compendia Bioscience Inc. was formed last year to commercialize Onocomine, a web-based analysis tool for the cancer gene expression database. It has ended its first year with 10 clients – including 8 of the 20 biggest cancer drug companies – as well as the assembly of an experienced management team and the completion of agreements for growth capital.

Oncomine was originally developed for academic use at the University of Michigan, and continues to be available free to academic users. Oncomine aims to commercialize the application to the commercial sector. It was launched with funding from Ann Arbor Spark and earned more money from the state’s 21st Century Jobs Fund, along with matching funds from private investors.
