Six Oakland County companies set to grow more than 3,600 jobs
Six more companies in Oakland County are announcing new expansion plans that could result in 3,686 new jobs in Metro Detroit.
Think it’s coincidental that six Oakland County companies are announcing plans to invest $34 million in Metro Detroit to create 3,686 jobs at the same time GM announces thousands of job cuts?
I didn’t think so.
It is slowly becoming clear that Michigan’s economic future has more to do with new economy firms and the high-paying jobs they create than the 20th Century jobs they are replacing.
The six savior companies include Echo Global Logistics, Gibbs Technologies, Harman Becker Automotive Systems, International Bancard Corporation, Robert Schechter & Associates and Technology Associates DBA Ranal. Their expansion plans come with the help of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, which helped them pick Michigan over competing sites.
The Oakland County companies are six of 18 economic development projects across the state announced today by the MEDC. All of the developments are expected to create 6,917 direct jobs and spin-off jobs.
