Detroit’s Midtown is booming with cultural, residential and commercial developments, and for many, it’s “the place to be.”
Midtown development is booming, with 3,000 new housing units since 2000 – 1,500 of them students, according to the University Cultural Center Association. They estimate $1.6 million in investment, and are even seeing development spill onto blighted edgy blocks.

“Unless Michigan’s anemic housing market drags down what’s become one of the few hot real estate spots in the state, an estimated 443 units in 15 projects will be built in 2007, making it another banner year for growth in Midtown.
Last year, 362 housing units were added, according to the University Cultural Center Association, a nonprofit group that has been key in luring development.”
