Business is picking up at the Jefferson Beach Marina after a summer renovation pumped new life into the historic structure.

Business is up now that 80 percent of the marina’s slip rentals are occupied, helping the business reclaim its status as the anchor to the St. Clair Shores Nautical Mile. The 53-acre marina has more than 800 boat slips just north of Grosse Pointe Shores.

Renovations include building new decks, refurbishing facilities, installing new fuel tanks and repaving the parking lot. The owners hope it will make the marina a top destination, drawing crowds to the line of shops, restaurants and marinas between 9 and 10 Mile roads.

The Jefferson Beach Marina, 24400 Jefferson Ave., originally opened as the Jefferson Beach Amusement Park in the early 20th Century. It became a marina in 1959.
