Hazel Park’s annual Art Fair is highlighting over 100 local artists this weekend
This year’s Hazel Park Art Fair, from August 22 to August 23, will feature over 100 local artists, food trucks, yard games, morning yoga, a charity beer tent, and much more.
What’s Happening: The city of Hazel Park is hosting its 14th annual Art Fair this weekend, featuring over 100 artists and makers with art for purchase. Some of the artists will be doing live demonstrations in their booths. Like every year, Clawson Clay Guild will host live demonstrations and contests. There will also be aerialists and stilt walkers, food trucks like VEG-N, The Taco Hub, and Motown Dawg Slingers, and a charity beer tent serving local beer and cider, including a mocktail made by a city resident. On Sunday, Body Park Yoga will host a yoga session for anyone interested from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m, with a $10 suggested donation.
When: August 22 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and August 23 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Green Acres Park (620 W Woodward Heights) in Hazel Park.
What’s New This Year: The event has incorporated a few new things this year, including an artist’s bulletin board, which gives artists a chance to share other opportunities for folks to check out their art, including future events, classes, and popups. Also new this year are lawn games like Jenga and checkers and an art exchange where people can bring art they’ve created or purchased, similar to a “leave an item, take an item.”
Why It’s Important: “The importance of large events like the Hazel Park Art Fair is creating community,” says Alissa Sullivan, Hazel Park Arts Council president. “It gives people an opportunity to meet their neighbors, to meet new people, to experience how other people see the world. The chance to enjoy some time outside, time with friends and family, and overall just participate in the creativity and artistry that makes Hazel Park a great place to live, work, visit, and volunteer!”
