Construction of the first phase of Cherrywood Parc in Canton is finished and the developer hopes to open the building to the public before the end of the month.

The neo-traditional or new urbanism development, on the north side of Cherry Hill Road and east of Ridge Road, is part of the larger Cherry Hill Village development. Cherrywood Parc consists of 46 brownstone-style townhouses near a small commercial development. Officials expect the project will take three years to complete.

This first phase features a row of nine townhouses. Each of the units will each have two or three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, two-car attached garage and a balcony. They will range in price from $193,000 to $230,000 each. So far one of the initial nine units has sold. Four more must sell before construction of the next row of nine townhouses can begin.

The developer, Washington/Michigan-based Meridien Development, will also include geothermal heating and cooling units in the townhouses. Those units are considered at the cutting edge of environmentally friendly building technology. Geothermal uses the constant temperature of the earth to help heat and cool the building, helping keep those costs low.

“I think it’s about time things like this are being offered,” says Pam Caputo, real-estate agent for Cherrywood Parc. “A lot of people are looking for this type of green technology.
