Plymouth-based Stardock Corporation just announced that their space strategy computer game Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords has been nominated as Strategy Game of the Year by GameSpot.

Founded in 1992 by Brad Wardell while he was a student at Western University, Stardock’s first major products were the OS/2 game Galactic Civilizations and a utility suite called Object Desktop, which allowed corporations and end users to customize their operating system.

Since then the company has grown to employ 40 people locally and another 10 worldwide. Their products include Stardock Design, WindowBlinds, PC strategy games like Cross Racing Championship and Massive Assault as well as Object Desktop for Windows. Products like WindowBlinds have been downloaded by millions of users and Dread Lords is currently the top-rated PC game of 2006.

“We are excited to have been nominated,” says President and CEO Wardell, “As gamers ourselves it’s always very gratifying to find out that other people like what we’ve worked on.”

GameSpot is one of the webs’ premiere game review sites and is part of CNET Networks Entertainment. Their gaming sites reach 24 million gaming enthusiasts each month.
