Southfield’s Data Recovery Group creates jobs by saving computer data

When most people are giving up getting those important files from a dead computer, Data Recovery Group can often work the magic to bring them back. The Southfield-based company eight employees and hopes to add one or two more within the next year or two.

When your computer dies and your servers crash. Who ya gonna call…?

Data Recovery Group is the firm that will reach into the great beyond and bring back those computer files you thought lost forever.

“They all have hard drives and we recover them,” says Patrick Ahern, president of Data Recover Group.

The Southfield-based company is making a killing, saving files and information lesser computer geeks gave up the ghost on. The eight-person firm has been slowly but steadily growing its business in Metro Detroit and hopes continued growth will put another job or two on its payroll.

The technology company did the opposite of what so many seem to do, starting in California and moving to Michigan. That was 21 years ago when the founder saw that less competition in the Midwest could lead to better business.

“He decided to do a reverse migration,” Ahern says. He saw that this market was underserved.”

Since then the company has grown to its handful of employees, four other offices outside of Michigan and one spin-off company. If anything Data Recover Group is showing that growing a successful business in Michigan is far from dead and gone.
