Most firms prefer to avoid routing their business through local governments. Not Southfield-based ImageSoft.

The company –which has been named one of the 50 Companies To Watch and 101 Best & Brightest in Michigan– has made efficiency in county government a cornerstone of its business model.

ImageSoft has helped 12 county governments in Michigan, ranging from Washtenaw to Grand Traverse, eliminate the red tape and paperwork that bogs down their systems and services. It plans to take on yet more this year as the company expands.

“We’ve done a couple and now they’re telling each other about us,” says Rick Wilson, vice president of ImageSoft.

One of the big ways ImageSoft accomplishes this is by digitizing paperwork and processes, eliminating the paper chase. It also does this with healthcare companies.

“Anybody who uses a lot of paper in their business, we help them simplify that,” Wilson says.

The 12-year-old firm with 41 employees sees county governments as its customer base, and the referrals account for nearly 20 percent growth a year. ImageSoft expects to hire 8-10 people within the next year to accomodate the extra work.

It is also utilizing its internship program to handle the extra load, too. ImageSoft has about four interns on average from the likes of Lawrence Technological, Eastern Michigan and Oakland universities.

“We’ve taken on quite a bit more business,” Wilson says.
