Evolved well beyond scuffed basketball courts, low ceiling classrooms and sickly fluorescent lighting of yesteryear, Ferndale’s Affirmations is a model of programming, resources and amenities.
Created as a venue for the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender community, Affirmations has opened its doors to the community at large, inviting their allies to visit the art gallery, cyber center, skydeck, library and media center, cafe and summer kids camp. More importantly, the center acts a sanctuary for the LGBT community and offers resources and programs for gay youth and their families.
As if that weren’t ambitious enough, Affirmations is going for LEED silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. You can read metromode’s story about here.
