The ceremony is set for 10 a.m. and will honor Gloria Jeff, the Michigan Department of Transportation’s former director. Jeff, a Detroit native, was the first woman and the first African-American to lead the department. The plans for the Welcome Center and the Mercado across the street were cemented during her tenure.
Tenants at the $17 million Welcome Center building include DTE Energy and MDOT.
