Citizen’s Bank is expanding its Small Business Community Champion Award to Metro Detroit this year. The program will award a $20,000 prize and $10,000 prize to two businesses in Metro Detroit, as well as in the metropolitan area of Boston, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh

Businesses must submit a 150-word proposal for funding (plus optional photo) that describes how the business will use the funding positively impact the community they serve.

In 2017, grantees included an optometry group with plans to launch a mobile clinic for children in need, a vegan and gluten-free food manufacturer with plans to provide meals to local food pantries, a low-income housing rental company and a business incubator, among others.

“Small businesses are major contributors in helping our local communities flourish,” says Jack Murphy, president of Citizens Bank Business Banking. “The Small Business Community Champions in 2018 “demonstrate the powerful impact that small businesses have by aligning their growth with opportunities to address and support local needs. It is a sincere pleasure to recognize their efforts and to celebrate their ideas for strengthening their communities.”

More details and contest rules can be found here. The deadline to submit is 5 pm on March 1.
