Wayne State teams up with Screen Actors Guild to find jobs for student actors
Hollywood is here, and Wayne State University officials are working to make sure students get in on the action. The university’s College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts is working with the Screen Actors Guild and hosting a workshop for aspiring actors in southeast Michigan.The Acting Survival Guide: Expectations of a Professional Actor will be held from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday at Wayne State’s Hilberry Theatre. The free workshop is open to the public and will teach the ropes and unspoken rules of the film industry so participants can improve their chances of receiving film credits and eventually becoming members of the Screen Actors Guild.This will range from tools like how to put together an actor’s resume to five skills that will help set them apart – driving, teleprompter, ear prompter, film terminology and computer skills. It will also touch on how to deal with agents and what is expected on acting jobs.The Screen Actors Guild and Wayne State will host other workshops and educational programs on how local residents can take advantage of the new film tax incentives.
