Vertabase, one of Oak Park’s finest, is growing by bringing one of California’s finest into the fold as it grows.

Some California firms get their best technology by plucking it from Michigan’s fertile intellectual property fields. Oak Park’s Vertabase is flipping that script by buying California-based Accomplice.

“We’re always looking for ways to add to our customers’ experiences with leading production tools,” says Mark Phillips, principal of Vertabase.

Vertabase specializes in project-management applications and products. The nearly decade-old firm’s top product is Vertabase 4, which focuses on simplifying product management by helping its users manage products, people and assets.

Accomplice makes top-shelf organization software project. Its task-management software is often called the “nirvana of organization,” according to Phillips. The software has more than 30,000 registered users.

Although Phillips declined to name specifics about the company, such as the number of employees, he did say it has been steadily growing and that expansion is self-funded.
