U-M Dearborn upgrades its engineering options to PhD status

The University of Michigan-Dearborn is looking to send a few more doctors out into the world now that it’s starting to offer PhDs in engineering.U-M-Dearborn’s College of Engineering and Computer Science will start to offer doctoral engineering programs in information and automotive systems starting next fall. The idea is to provide more engineers with advanced knowledge and research experience to help boost the local new economy.”This is the best of times to be in the field of engineering research,” says Subrata Sengupta, dean of College of Engineering and Computer Science. “The only survivors will be the leaders and firms able to lead the reinvention of the auto industry through new technology.”The doctoral programs will help fill the roles for advanced automotive engineering and web technologies. The information systems engineering program will help the students learn how to process of new types of multimedia, graphics, interface technologies, telematics and global manufacturing logistics.
