St. Joseph’s north tower next phase in $258m plan

St. Joseph Mercy Health System is expected to start the bidding process for the construction of its new north patient tower complex in November.

The east patient tower, which is 11 stories, will take the place of the hospital’s “1100 Tower,” which will be demolished in December. It will contain beds for critical care and progressive care.

Rhine said the new towers will significantly improve the patient care process and provide more space for workers and equipment.

The north patient tower will house a meditation garden, a respite area for patients and families in addition to the new chapel.

“It will be a beautiful glassed-in area that will have a strong sense of the exterior with plants and trees and a beautiful walking path,” Tocco said.
