The long-underutilized northeast corner of Eight Mile and Greenfield in Southfield is being considered for a news senior housing complex.

The complex would consist of a three-story building with 64 units and two small cottages with eight units each, for a total of 80 two-bedroom apartments. A salon, exercise room and perhaps theaters would be some of the amenities offered. [Developer Philip] Holmes said rent would be between $500 and $800 monthly.

Mayor Brenda Lawrence said she likes the location because it adds to the housing mix in Southfield. “We don’t have middle-income housing for seniors in that price range,” she said. “As our baby boomers come along, that’s a market we have in our city.”
