Redford Township readies to clear blighted buildings for new medical center

Redford Township is set to remove several vacant, blighted properties to make way for a new $3.1-million medical care facility.

Several vacant, blighted properties in Redford Township are about to be bulldozed for a new $3.1-million medical care facility, which will begin construction today. Work is expected to be done before the end of the year.

Botsford Hospital plans to raze the structures on the east side of Beech Daly Road, three blocks north of 5 Mile Road, and build a 12,000-sqaure-foot medical facility that will offer pulmonary physical therapy and family practice clinics. The new single-story structure is expected to create about 30 jobs.

The hospital replaces an old gas station and the old home of the Redford Jaycees, which was at one time an old church.

“We’re very excited about this project,” says Michael Dennis, community development director for Redford Township. “It’s taking care of an old property that was an eye sore and bringing in a needed service.”

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation has approved a $167,000 Single Business Tax credit for the project.
