After finding housing, people who've experienced homelessness frequently seek to further stabilize their lives, better support their families, and give back to their communities. Here are a few of their stories.
While homelessness is often thought of as sleeping either on the street or in a shelter, it takes many other forms. We talked to Oakland County residents who've experienced some of them.
“This is a turning point for Pontiac’s future,” said Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter. “For decades, many have disinvested in Downtown Pontiac, limiting its potential. Now, we are unlocking the opportunity to attract businesses and bring new energy to our county seat.”

We spoke with founder Kerry Doman on how this newsletter, website and social media presence provides to families seeking out fun in the area.
“This strategic plan will help us build on our county’s strengths and ensure Oakland County remains an inviting destination for visitors,” said Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter. “It also gives us a chance to support and promote our local businesses, cultural institutions and outdoor recreation.”
The process of building new housing with affordable rents is often long and complex. We dug into it with several local experts.
“This event allows investors and developers to engage directly with local leaders and talk about exciting new projects in our communities,” says Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter.

The Healthy Communities plan will bring five existing city parks into the county parks system, leading to improved infrastructure and maintenance, and support improvements at several other parks in the county.
"This is a school district leading the electric charge in an area needing clean air solutions,” says Elizabeth Hauptman from Moms Clean Air Force, a member of the Michigan clean school bus coalition.
