“I think (children) see themselves in it,” says Corrine Stocker, Library Director at Hazel Park District Library. “It's just a bit of magic, and it really lifts up the library and the city in general.”
“We’re trying to build a Ferrari here, and I’m confident at this point that we really are,” says Jesse Hopkins, founder of Clay Avenue Guitar Co.
“I have three rooms upstairs, and that’s my living space. So that might be the only thing someone would say is a downfall” of running an in-home childcare business, says Beth Nickerson. “But when you love what you do, is it really work?”
“The seeds that were planted five to 10 years ago are bearing fruit now,” realtor Derek Werenka says about city-led efforts to reinvigorate the Hazel Park housing market.

It’s probably too easy to put Hazel Park nightlife into two distinct categories: old-school dives vs. high-concept upstarts. Hazel Park contains multitudes.
Stymied by the COVID-19 pandemic, Hazel Park's small business surge picks up where it left off – and then some.
"Look at where we are. Look at these trees. It's such a great park," says artist Melinda Bylow. "It’s a perfect park for this kind of thing.”
"We're looking to just kind of do what we're doing inside and bring that outside,” says Mike Pierce, co-owner of Eastern Palace Club. “The beach vibes will be resonating throughout the neighborhood.”
