Downtown Farmington’s holiday season thrives on the energy of its local small businesses, where shop owners, families, and visiting loved ones keep holiday traditions alive.
The city of Farmington is revamping its downtown with a new art promenade that will connect parks and be filled with public art, hangout spots, and a performance space.
2025 is also the year where the general public has an opportunity to help shape the direction of downtown Farmington in the years to come.
“That keystone moment of creating Riley Park has led downtown Farmington down the direction of creating this network of other cool little public nodes, like Dinan Park and the Masonic park, and connecting them,” says John Bry, Program Coordinator at Main Street Oakland County.
Spring has sprung in downtown Farmington, where flowers and new businesses continue to bloom with vim and vigor.
Big projects abound in downtown Farmington with new housing, infrastructure, and public spaces underway.
“This strategic plan will help us build on our county’s strengths and ensure Oakland County remains an inviting destination for visitors,” said Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter. “It also gives us a chance to support and promote our local businesses, cultural institutions and outdoor recreation.”
"It’s just kind of unique to have a sports facility within a retail space in such a high traffic area," says Joe Williams, owner of The Pickleball Pop-Up in downtown Farmington. "I don’t think that’s too common.”
“Some of these things that they've wanted to do for years, that Farmington has been chipping away at, are now starting to be realized. It's certainly not an overnight success story,” says John Bry, Program Coordinator at Main Street Oakland County. “People think, ‘Oh, they did this so quickly and overnight.’ These things have been in the works for a while.”
It’s October, which means that Edgar the Grand Raven has made its annual return to downtown Farmington.
