Whether it’s streamlining the permit process or instituting social districts, cities like Dearborn aren’t only thinking about using these tools to boost business during the COVID-19 pandemic, but after it, too. As is often the case, through adversity comes innovation.
As a nonprofit offering a comprehensive slate of social, economic, health, and educational services in Metro Detroit, ACCESS did some heavy lifting to adapt its operations to the "new normal" of COVID-19.
Green Brain Comics has enrolled in the MI Local Biz program, a crowdfunding-and-matching grant initiative designed by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to help businesses like theirs survive the economic fallout from coronavirus. We asked them about their crowdfunding efforts and life during COVID-19.

Harry Lile had to take his turkey sandwich off the menu due to meat shortages. But he's still serving up ham.
The museum opened to members on July 2 and will open to the general public on July 9.
Moe Hider, owner of Dearborn-based Famous Hamburger, says he "never would have thought in ages" that his business would be able to survive solely based on carryout orders.
"We're old-school," Chimento says. "We're reinventing our business as the pandemic keeps continuing, and that's all you can do."
Strong support from the many local artists who patronize the store helped the business pull through.
