Pharmaceutical start-up Lycera Corp. will locate in Ann Arbor and hire 28 chemists, biologists and physicians. The company landed a $499,000 tax credit from the state and $150,000 worth of Pfizer lab equipment through the Michigan Innovation Equipment Depot.

[Founder Gary] Glick said he considered establishing Lycera in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Florida, Seattle and San Francisco. He said he is happy the state has been able to provide the level of support needed. He also said he has received substantial assistance from Spark and U-M in launching the company.

Glick’s preference is to locate Lycera in Ann Arbor, where he has an easy commute and access to outstanding scientists and “one of the world’s best research universities.”

“All of my collaborators are here,” Glick said. “These (people) are integral to my professional life. … Leaving is not an option I really want to see come to pass. I hope things all work out.”
