Landon IP, a consulting firm specializing in patents, will set up an office in Southfield, bringing about $3 million in investment and 300 jobs to Metro Detroit.
The new office will almost triple the number of people employed at the company’s headquarters in Alexandria, VA. Most of the jobs created in Metro Detroit will be for engineers and scientists. They will pay an average of about $75,000 annually.
“They were ecstatic to find this huge base of engineers and tech people in Michigan,” said Michael Shore, chief communications officer for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “They are really looking forward to coming here and growing here.”
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation agreed to grant Landon $2.1 million in tax credits over five years as part of the deal. Michigan beat out a competing site in Palo Alto, Calif.
