Grosse Pointe’s Kercheval Place project nearly complete

One of the downtown Grosse Pointe’s signature projects should wrap up by the end of the year. Work on the new parking structure behind the Kercheval Place development is nearly complete with much of the precast pieces in place.

The project is redeveloping an old, vacant two-story Jacobson’s store at the corner of Notre Dame and Kercheval streets. Among the hip retailers occupying the 37,000 square feet of space is a Trader Joes specialty grocer, Jos. A. Bank, Coldwater Creek and Ann Taylor Loft.

The city razed the old 1970s-era parking garage behind the development earlier this summer which allowed the developer to replace it with a new 220-space parking deck that will be used by the occupants and patrons of the stores and second floor office space.

The renovation of the old Jacobson’s store is expected to play a major part in revitalizing Grosse Pointe’s downtown district. It will fill a major void left when Jacobson’s left that building empty several years ago.
