Farmington Hills’ FRAS-LE hires, debuts new green brake pads

FRAS-LE is giving an old economy business (building brake pads) a new economy twist by making it sustainable.The Farmington Hills-based firm just debuted its new Hybrid Technology brake pads, which are made with a number of precious metals, primarily copper. It also is made without mercury, lead, chromium, asbestos, or cadmium. The new product is meant to meet California’s new regulations on the composition of brake pads.”We have gone above and beyond California’s regulations 22 years before it goes into effect,” says Steffanie Savine, office and communications coordinator for FRAS-LE. “We’re the first company to put this product on the market.”The new product is a key part of the company’s plan to continue its growth. The firm employs 56 people, including seven in Farmington Hills and another seven in Troy. It recently hired a couple of sales people this year and took on another 40-some people when it purchased a competitor last year.FRAS-LE is the North American subsidiary of Brazil-based Randen.
