EDJT commits over $800K in job training grants to retain and grow jobs

Governor Granholm announced this week that $833,567 in economic job training grants will be provided to four Michigan-based companies, including two in Metro Detroit. 

After stressing the importance of turning Michigan into an economic powerhouse in her 2007 State of the State address, the Govenor cited the need to provide cutting-edge training in advanced automotive and manufacturing applications to secure a “a highly skilled and adaptable workforce.”

The grants are aimed at upgrading the skills of over 1,000 workers, including 445 new employees.

Karmann USA, a Livonia-based full service supplier of convertibles and niche vehicles to companies such as General Motors and DaimlerChrysler, will receive over $200,000 for its 225 employees and an additional 200 new hires to be employed through Schoolcraft College. 

Sharp Tooling and Assembly Inc., of Fraser will receive $70,000 for the company’s five current employees and 70 new hires via Wayne County Community College. 

The rest of the grants and training will go to Plastech, of Monroe, and MPI Research in Mattawan. 
 
Since 1994, more than $337 million in EDJT grants have aided over 605,000 Michigan workers.
