Gibraltor family turns love of herbs into small biz, DTL Herbs LTD

Troy and Diann Huffaker always had a love for herbs and wanted to find a way to provide for their family's future so they combined the two with a new slow-food business called DTL Herbs LTD. The family business specializes in making seasoning blends for dry rub. It also occasionally sells fresh herbs and potted herbs. "We grow naturally," Troy Huffaker says. "We don't use any chemicals." Both Troy and Diann Huffaker are master gardeners who have had a long love affair with herbs. They started the business in their Gibraltor kitchen in 2010 with the goal of making enough money to provide for college tuition for family members and teach the art of running a profitable venture. DTL Herbs LTD has now grown to the point where is has a commercial kitchen space to keep up with demand. It also needs a team of four people to keep up with the emerging demand for their fresh, locally based products at farmers markets and local restaurants. "We now have 18 different products we make and some seasonal products," Huffaker says.
