The Community Economic Development Association of Michigan is addressing the demand for affordable housing across the state. It’s real estate development boot camp provides tools and training for developers and community members within their neighborhoods.
Michigan Green Communities, a consortium of partnerships that includes the Michigan Municipal League, has been helping cities and towns across the state become greener. The annual Michigan Green Communities Challenge encourages communities to participate and also measures their sustainability efforts.

“The state of Michigan has realized that this is a ‘do or die’ moment with this economic and technological transformation of the automotive industry and related industries,” says University of Toronto Professor Richard Florida. Despite an increased awareness around symptoms and treatment options, a lot of stigma around seeking mental health care still exists. For leaders and professionals in esteemed positions and industries, this stigma can be even more difficult to overcome.
“Detroit is a very, very hard-working small business community,” says Build Institute’s Entrepreneur in Residence, Heather Lavine. Having launched four successful food businesses, including Midtown’s Chartreuse, she would know. “I think it's also a very supportive small business community […] Everyone leans on each other.”
MI Mental Health spoke with Genesee Health System Director of Strategic Initiatives Angela Tyler on the importance of providing resources and services to BIPOC youth in Flint and throughout Genesee County.
With more than 550 interns placed, the Michigan STEM Forward program is connecting Michigan’s young talent with companies in key industries across the state. Many of the interns are students at one of the three state research-intensive universities that make up the University Research Corridor (URC), an alliance of Michigan State University, the University of Michigan and Wayne State University dedicated to strengthening Michigan’s economy.
