Ann Arbor moving forward with bike path projects
Ann Arbor is putting forth the effort and spending the money to make sure their bike trails are properly maintained.
Building parks and greenways normally seems like a good idea, but maintaining them in the long run is just as important as building them. Who hasn’t shaken their head at a park or a bike trail sitting in disrepair that could be so much more?
Ann Arbor is putting forth the effort and spending the money to make sure that doesn’t happen to its bike trails. The city plans to spend $32,000 this year routing and sealing its asphalt bike paths. The agreement also could be extended for another two years, bringing the bill to $97,000.
The money will come from the city’s parks repair and restoration millage.
The city has made an extensive effort to expand its facilities for non-motorizes transportation, such as bicycles. It has been adding miles of bike lanes on local streets and bike paths throughout the city consistently in recent years. The idea is to lessen congestion and improve the local environment by taking more cars off the road.
