Comfort CPM builds out-of-state clientele, adds jobs

Comfort CPM is planning to take its knee rehabilitation machine national, as the Commerce Township-based business adds to staff and expands production space. Comfort CPM develops and manufactures a knee rehabilitation machine that provides a resistance exercise in a comfortable chair. The company plans to capture a small but sizable slice of the 500,000 knee replacements done each year. That number is expected to grow 10 percent annually. The manufacturer has already sold a few hundred units in Michigan and is gearing up to spread its sales outside the state. "We're starting to reach out to other states," says Ed Leick, vice president of sales and marketing for Comfort CPM. "We are in Philadelphia and we're working on Chicago and Dallas right now." The two-year-old company started with three people. It now employs five and has more than doubled its manufacturing space from 5,000 square feet to 12,000 square feet.
