Brightwing grows staff, aims at Grand Rapids market

One of the consistent pieces of conventional wisdom in Metro Detroit since the Great Recession is there is a deep talent pool available for employers to draw from. As the economy continues to rebound and local employers keep employing more and more people, that conventional wisdom is starting to change. "There is such a shortage of talent in the area that companies need to retain their top performers," says April Jennings, marketing director for Brightwing. The Troy-based staffing company has enjoyed some significant growth in recent years as an increasing number of firms continue to hire and need staffing services. Brightwing has recently hired a director of recruiting and a director of human resources to help manage its workforce of 50 core employees, one intern and 400 contractors. It has hired 14 people over the last year. Brightwing traditionally has focused on recruiting, training, development and creating workplaces that are both attractive and productive. It recently expanded into education solutions, launching its Brightstart platform that helps new employees transition into their new companies. Brightwing is also looking at growing its geographic reach. It currently covers the Metro Detroit area but is now taking aim at offering its services on the west side of Michigan, specifically the Grand Rapids market.
