Detroit-based DTE Energy is expanding its office space in the Ashley Mews building in downtown Ann Arbor, creating a hi-tech learning center on part of the building’s ground floor.

The 1,200 square feet will be turned into an area for DTE employees to have meetings and make presentations, among other functions. (They will not be adding jobs.) DTE occupies six of the building’s eight floors.

The ground floor space for the skyscraper, located at Main Street just south of William Street, was zoned for only retail. The Ann Arbor City Council approved changing it to allow for the hi-tech learning center on Monday. The skyscraper has struggled to attract a retail tenant since its opening a few years ago.
