Source: The Detroit Free Press, 6/26/2008
No long nights, no cubbies, no walls... What about working weekends?
Well, none of that, either. And, all the while, no offshoring of work.
In fact, Menlo Innovations is keepin' their peeps right here in
Michigan. A bit of an alternative working environment, wouldn't you
say? Either way, you should be just a little bit jealous. Come on! No
weekends!
Program aims at retaining entrepreneurs, so far so good
Source: The Detroit Free Press, 6/26/2008
Entrepreneur isn't the easiest word to spell. However, on the flip
side, it's a lot easier spelling it than being one. So, to make it a
little easier, and to retain these entrepreneurs here in Michigan, a
program called MORE is making a push. The program has granted 11 UM
students five grand to pursue a wide range of ideas.

Same-sex family in Ypsi featured on '30 days' television show
Source: The Ann Arbor News, 6/26/2008
Super Size Me was Morgan Spurlock's first major joint. It
catapulted him into the spot light in a few different ways. He ate only
McDonalds for a month, gained 30 pounds, and his liver got all jacked
up. He's back with a new-er show called "30 Days." Somewhat of a
spin-off of his first major work. In the show, a person immerses
themselves in a lifestyle they aren't familiar or comfortable with. So,
Spurlock brought the show to Ypsi and immersed someone into a same-sex
family raising children.

Money that stays in Michigan helps Michigan
Source: The Flint Journal, 6/19/2008
A state the buys together, stays together. The economy of Michigan is less-than perfect. But, there are things people can do to give it a little bit of a boost - buy Michigan foods. Everyone has to eat, why not eat and put a bit back into the state. And with the Internet these days, it makes it all the more easier to find out about these Michigan products. Money that is spent here is money that stays here.
Finally, computers can get some real sleep around here
Source: Great Lakes IT Report, 6/19/2008
University of Michigan researchers have developed the lowest possible
power output for a microchip that goes into sleep mode. It's more of an
"extreme sleep mode," using 30,000 times less power than active chips
on the market today. With such low power, a chip like this can greatly
reduce the size of batteries for various systems. However, this little
bugger has bigger fish to fry than just powering down your macBook.
It'll be applied to biomedical sensors and technologies.

Dump the pump and pray to God
Source: The Detroit Free Press, 6/19/2008
Gas prices aren't going down, unfortunately. And people are turning to
car pools, buses, bikes, and their good ol' tennis shoes to help stop their wallet from bleeding. However,
there are a number of other people looking toward the sky for help. No, not
the People Mover - you know, 'cause that is in the sky - but toward
religion. Some people are turning to prayer to help them beat the
prices of gas. Hey, man, whatever works.

Source: Michigan Economic Development Corporation , 6/12/2008
Michigan's tourism industry is huge. It accounts for 200,000 jobs and
generates $1.1 billion in state tax revenues, not to mention the $18.8

are big potatoes. So, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation is
looking for an agency to facilitate a travel campaign to promote that state's assets, as well as an
e-marketing campaign to increase the image of Michigan and its businesses.

Dearborn Dem Dingell pushing for public transit
Source: The Detroit Free Press, 6/12/2008
Gas, fuel, oil, and diesel are quickly becoming bad words. Gas prices are
up, though "up" is a conservative word for it, so the bikes are coming
out and the bus seats are filling up (quite unlike your tank). But,
there is talk that there needs to be more options to the transit question. And it's a hot topic for this summer's hot
weather. So, Dearborn Dem John Dingell went down to Washington to push
the issue.
