GM is tapping one of the smartest institutions of higher learning to help it make the smart cars of the future.

One of the world's biggest brands is teaming up with one of academia's biggest names now that General Motors and Carnegie Mellon University are establishing a Collaborative Research Lab.
The lab will allow people from both institutions to work together on autonomous driving technologies. Autonomous driving is an emerging technology sector that promises to greatly influence how drivers and their vehicles interact. Think of it as a way of making today's cars smarter.
