With nearly 30 colleges and universities, SE Michigan's talent pool is both deep and wide. The state's Big Three schools alone (University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Wayne State University) bring in hundreds of millions of research dollars, create tens of thousands of jobs and spawn dozens of start-up companies every year. From the design programs at the College for Creative Studies to the engineering school at Lawrence Technological University, these schools are the engines that drive not only Michigan but the entire nation.

In a span of four years, nearly $700 million in venture capital has been invest in over 100 businesses in Michigan. For new emerging technology initiatives, Michigan has created the $150 million Venture Michigan Fund to catalyze investment in early-stage firms operating in Michigan. With the matching requirement, this initiative will attract an additional $450 million in capital to Michigan for investment in promising new companies.

Want to conquer the universe? Slay trolls and goblins? Run for president? The video game industry is the new frontier of entertainment. With annual revenues reaching $14 billion, SE Michigan companies like Stardock, Critical Moves and Reactor Zero are looking to get in on the action.
