Free Detroit history: Midtown museum welcomes you without charge all month
Detroit Historical Museum
Throughout July
For those of you who want to dig into a little history of the D, the perfect time is now. Thanks to the generous support of
PVS Chemicals, admission to the Detroit Historical Museum for the entire month of July is on the house. As in f-r-e-e: free!
All kinds of cool stuff goes on at the Detroit Historical Museum, Dossin Great Lakes Museum and locations
throughout the community. Among the
many offerings are the popular 'Behind the Scenes' tours of some of
metro Detroit’s best-known historic sites -- as well as some
not-so-known sites -- given by expert tour guides; visiting historic houses of worship in an all-day tour series; and conversing with local
authors, collectors and historians as they talk about a variety of
subjects related to metro Detroit’s rich history.
Make a note the Detroit Historical Society will be hosting the city's 308th Birthday Party
at the Detroit Historical Museum, Sunday, July 26, 1 - 4 p.m.
On that special day, guests will share their knowledge and expertise on genealogy, explore Detroit's early cultural roots, and demonstrate Native American dancing and artifacts.
The
Detroit Historical Museum is at 5401 Woodward Avenue in Detroit's Midtown; the Dossin Great Lakes Museum is at 100 Strand Drive, on Belle Isle.
