Tasty: Comerica Cityfest is one of Detroit's hottest parties, spanning five days in New Center

OK, Detroit, one of the biggest and the best is ready to roll out its carpet once again. The Comerica Cityfest is a five-day outdoor food and entertainment street festival spectacle in the city's historic New Center.

It's a diverse and family friendly event that features free national and local talent on four stages, over 40 Michigan restaurants selling "tastes" of their specialties, free stage shows, activities for children, and a marketplace of unique Detroit products and memorabilia.

The festival is open from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Wednesday (July 1) through Saturday (July 4), and 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday (July 5).

Since 1993, the festival has generated over $1 million in proceeds that support the New Center Council, the non-profit founders and producers of Cityfest, and its initiatives: litter control, landscaping, holiday lighting, graffiti removal, economic development, planning, and advocacy.

The scheduled talent is huge and impressively diverse and includes Jazzhead, Platinum Pied Pipers, Electric Firebabies, Magic Shop, Hentchmen, De La Soul, The Silent Years, Detroit sax legend George Benson, Handsome Furs, Lola Morales wsg Sean Blackman, Will Sessions, Michna, I Crime, The Motor City Horns with The Brothers Groove and special guest Johnnie Bassett, Marco Polio and the New Vaccines, Bootsey X and the Lovemasters, Childbite, Deastro, Todd Rundgren, the Wrong Numbers, Silverghost, 1592, Bettye LaVette, Millions of Brazilians, Girls! Girls! Girls! (Featuring Carolyn Striho, Rachel May & Vivian George), Dennis Coffey Quartet, the Veronicas (Aussie identical twin electro-popettes, pictured above), the Blueflowers, Buddy Guy and a tribute to Detroit radio legend the Electrifying Mojo featuring Rick Wilhite, Marc Duncan, Kenny Dixon Jr. and Carl Craig.
