Sonic horror: Detroit electro punks screen film, perform soundtrack live at DIA

Detroit Institute of Arts
ADULT.
May 9 7 & 8:30 p.m.

We love ADULT., let us count the ways. The band made up of husband-wife duo Adam Lee Miller and Nicola Kuperus began developing a tough, smart sound and image in Detroit in the 1990s and have kept the faith in the music and the city, where they live and work. They started their own label here called Ersatz Audio, which they first ran in Woodbridge and have since moved up the road apiece into the New Center neighborhood.

They have influenced and inspired too many groups to count on nearly every continent. ADULT.s discography is massive and includes over 100 songs, remixes and licensed tracks on numerous labels. The group's most recent LPs, Why Bother? and Gimme Trouble appeared on Chicago's Thrill Jockey.

Need we say more? Well, yes. This Friday (May 9) ADULT. will present a short, silent experimental horror film accompanied by their own electronic horror music. The film, Decampment, was written, produced and directed by Miller and Kuperus earlier this year especially for this DIA performance. The film follows a woman's transmigration from her regular life into a new society of deceit. Shot entirely in Michigan with all local actors. The all new soundtrack will be performed live during the screening of the film, with shows at 7 and 8:30 p.m. A trilogy of limited edition 7-inch singles featuring music from Decampment will be available on Ersatz Audio soon. Oh, the horror, the horror.
