Cuban sizzle: Grammy Award nominees Tiempo Libre bring Latin boy band heat to the Max
Orchestra Hall
Tiempo Libre
May 11
3 p.m.
Here's a show that should have you yearning for a weekend of sunshine and warm waters lapping at the beach.
This Sunday, two-time Grammy Award-nominated Latin band
Tiempo Libre will be performing "Rumba Sinfónica," a piece composed by Ricardo Lorenz and co-commissioned in 2007 by the DSO, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Ravinia Festival and the Festival of the Arts Boca.
The piece, inspired by the emotional heat of the tropics, will be performed in Orchestra Hall by the DSO and Tiempo Libre, which will combine their talents to perform a dynamic, high-voltage and passionate set of timba music, an exhilarating blend of Latin jazz and traditional Cuban music that celebrates both the band’s Cuban heritage and their new American experience.
In honor of Mother’s Day, moms attending with their children of any age get in free.
The concert is May 11 at 3 p.m. as part of the Northwest Airlines World Music Series.
