Join us Nov. 18 for "Where Detroit comes together," a speaker series event

Engaged residents of metro Detroit spend a lot of time contemplating—as we should—the things that divide our region, race and class chief among them. Yet we don't give much thought to the special places and events that bring us all together. It's a worthy exercise, however, as we work to build a Detroit where all feel welcome.

That's why we are hosting "Designing Spaces Where Detroit Comes Together: What we can learn from Eastern Market and the Riverfront," a Model D speaker series event happening Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Outdoor Adventure Center (1801 Atwater St.).

A panel featuring Dan Carmody of Eastern Market Corporation, Ceara O'Leary of the Detroit Collaborative Design Center, and Mark Wallace and William Smith of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy will engage in a discussion moderated by Chad Rochkind, principal of Human Scale Studio, around what works and what doesn't when designing Detroit's public realm.

Please register for the event, which is free and open to the public, via Eventbrite.

"Designing Spaces Where Detroit Comes Together" is a part of our year-long celebration of Model D's decade of publishing in Detroit, support for which is provided by the Hudson Webber Foundation. Click here to check out the rest of our "10 Years of Change" series.
