Riverfront State Park begins expansion in Detroit
Model D, 9/16/2008
Tri-Centennial State Park
in Detroit has broken ground on an expansion that will extend the Detroit RiverWalk eastwards towards Belle Isle. It will also serve as a wetlands demonstration area.
Excerpt:
[Park manager Eric] Cowing says that introducing the state park system to an urban audience is a primary goal of the expansion. "We wanted to create a gateway for Detroiters to discover and experience Michigan state parks," he says. "We wanted to connect Detroit's riverfront parks and adjacent neighborhoods, provide recreational opportunities for urban residents and visitors and introduce the local community to opportunities in conservation-like careers."
