Michigan's biggest community college is about to get a little better. Oakland Community College is in line for about $1.18 million in upgrades at two of its campuses this year.
A 40-year-old cooling tower will be replaced at the college's Auburn Hills campus. About $842,800 will be spent on the replacement of the tower, which provides air conditioning for the 8,300-student campus. The college's Orchard Ridge campus will also receive $338,300 worth of new signage.
Funding for the projects comes from $45 million in revenue the college receives annually from an .8 mill property levy approved by Oakland County voters in 2001 and was approved by the college's board of trustees. Oakland Community College offers degrees and certificates in more than 130 career fields to approximately 70,000 students each year.
